Commitment
In order to really be able to help others effectively, we have decided in light of the numerous appeals we receive to concentrate our social commitments. In public life, the spheres of culture and monument maintenance in the North German region as far as Brandenburg, we sponsor selected initiatives and activities. Thus we have assisted such foundations as the Elbphilharmonie Foundation, the Hamburg State Opera, the John Neumeier Foundation and the Thalia Theater.
Our commitments in the social sphere go back a long way. “We Hamburgers won’t let anyone fall overboard.” This quote from Max M. Warburg of the year 1913 was the inspiration for the founding of the Hamburgische Gesellschaft, now called HAMBURGISCHE BRÜCKE. This organisation was established with the aim of providing a contact point for altruistic private individuals, associations and trusts on the one hand and those seeking help on the other. The needy were to be aided without consideration for their situation, the kind of need they suffered or the nature of their faith. Today, activities are concentrated on sick people who have fallen into financial difficulties and who cannot obtain help on the basis of the legal framework. The origins of our foundation Warburg-Melchior-Olearius Foundation, whose primary cause is the support of employees and their families in crisis situations, date back to the 19th Century.
